What is Millarum Dashboards?

Millarum Dashboards extends Jira's native dashboard experience with six purpose-built widgets that work together as a cohesive analytics suite. The core concept is dashboard-wide filter synchronization: configure one Millarum Slicer gadget and every other Millarum widget on the same dashboard instantly responds — project, issue type, status, assignee, date ranges, and any custom Jira field you choose.

Creating a Dashboard from Scratch

  1. Open the Dashboards page

    In Jira, click the Dashboards menu in the top navigation bar, then select Manage dashboards.

  2. Create a new dashboard

    Click Create dashboard in the top-right corner. Give it a name (e.g., Team Overview), choose a sharing option (Private, My organization, or specific people), then click Create.

  3. Open "Add a Gadget"

    Once your empty dashboard opens, click the Add gadget (+) button in the top-right area of the dashboard canvas.

  4. Search for Millarum widgets

    In the Add a Gadget dialog, type mill in the search box. All six Millarum gadgets will appear. Click Add next to each one you want.

  5. Configure the Slicer first

    After adding widgets, open the Millarum Slicer configuration dialog, give it a name, and save. The Slicer must be set up before the other widgets will display data.

Important

The Slicer must be on the same dashboard as the other widgets. Filters only broadcast to widgets on the same dashboard page.


🎛️ 1. Millarum Slicer Guide

The Slicer is a compact filter bar that sits at the top of your dashboard. Every filter you apply here is instantly broadcast to all other Millarum widgets on the same dashboard — no manual refresh required.

You can filter by:

  • Project — one or more Jira projects
  • Issue Type — Bug, Story, Task, Epic, Sub-task, etc.
  • Status — To Do, In Progress, Done, any custom status
  • Extra Fields — Assignee, Priority, Fix Version, Labels, Due Date, or any custom Jira field

All filters are multi-select: combine multiple values within a field and across multiple fields simultaneously.

Date Range Options

When you add a date field (e.g., Due Date, Created), special range options appear: Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This month, Last month, This year, and Custom range (with calendar pickers).

Presets

Presets let you save and restore named filter combinations (e.g., Sprint 42, Bugs only) with a single click. Choose **Personal** (visible only to you) or **Shared** (visible to all dashboard viewers) depending on your needs.


📈 2. Millarum Charts Guide

A highly configurable chart widget supporting 7 distinct chart types, 10 color palettes, and clickable drilldowns. Use this widget to visualize open issue distributions by Status, Type, Assignee, Priority, and custom fields.

Grouping Fields & Palettes

Select a primary grouping field (and an optional secondary sub-grouping field for stacked charts). Choose from Atlassian, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Earth, Neon, Pastel, Warm, Cool, or Grayscale color palettes. Decide if labels should display raw **Numbers** or **Percentages**.

Clickable Drilldowns

Click any chart segment, bar, or slice to open a Jira issue search pre-filtered to that exact combination of field values and the current Slicer filters.


📋 3. Millarum List Guide

The List widget displays a paginated issue table with configurable columns, resizable headers, and inline field editing. It allows team members to browse issues and make edits directly from the dashboard view.

Default & Custom Columns

The list default columns include **Work** (issue key), **Summary**, **Project**, **Type**, and **Status**. You can click the ⚙ Columns button to add standard fields (Assignee, Priority, Due Date) or any custom field (Story Points, Sprint, Epic Link) available in your Jira instance.

Resizable Columns & Pagination

  • Drag the right edge of any column header to resize it. Widths are saved automatically.
  • Select 10, 20, 25, 50, or 100 items per page. Pagination is instant as all matching issues are loaded in one call.

Inline Editing Support

Click any editable cell (Status, Assignee, Priority, or custom text fields) to update the ticket backend on the fly. Cell permissions strictly mirror your Jira user profile edit rights.


⚖️ 4. Created vs Resolved Guide

A dual-line trend chart comparing issue creation rate against resolution velocity to measure team throughput and backlog growth over a configurable time window.

Time Grouping Options

Group metrics on the X-axis by **Daily**, **Weekly**, or **Monthly** buckets. Set the lookback window to any duration from 1 up to 3,650 days (10 years).

🌊 5. Activity Stream Guide

Provides a stacked bar chart of team member activity broken down by event types: comments, status transitions, and field updates. Excellent for standups and understanding work distribution.

  • Max Issues Inspected: Cap the number of issues analyzed to optimize load times (default 200).
  • Grouping Window: Filter events to Last 7, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days.

🔀 6. Sankey Diagram Guide

A flow diagram showing how issues distribute across field values or how they have historically transitioned between workflow statuses. The width of each flow band represents issue volume.

Standard Mode vs. History Mode

  • Standard Mode (Current Values): Groups issues by current field values across a chain of 1 to 6 fields (e.g., Project → Issue Type → Status).
  • History Mode (Transition Replay): Analyzes issue changelogs to reconstruct the paths issues took between statuses. Useful for identifying regressions (e.g., In Review → To Do).

Sankey Properties

Configure the maximum number of nodes per level (3 to 30, default 10) to group less frequent values into an "Other" bucket. Flow bands are clickable, opening a Jira search for the exact matching issues.


How Filter Synchronization Works

Millarum Dashboards keeps all widgets in sync automatically. When you change a filter in the Slicer, every other widget on the same dashboard updates to match — no manual refresh needed.

  1. You select filters in the Slicer (Project, Issue Type, Status, etc.).
  2. The Slicer broadcasts the filter selection to all other widgets on the dashboard.
  3. All other Millarum widgets detect the change and automatically reload their data.

Every widget updates simultaneously within a few seconds of changing a filter — no manual refresh needed on any individual widget.

Tip

Use Presets in the Slicer to save commonly used filter combinations (e.g., "Sprint 42", "Bugs only", "My team") and switch between views in a single click.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Always add the Slicer first. Without a Slicer, other widgets show a "Please add the Millarum Slicer" message.
  • Use Presets in the Slicer to save frequently used filter combinations.
  • Resize columns in the List widget by dragging column headers. Widths are saved automatically.
  • Click chart segments in Charts, Created vs Resolved, and Sankey widgets to open a Jira issue search for that exact data point.
  • Use Sankey History mode to visualize how issues have flowed through statuses over time — great for retrospectives.
  • Use Stacked Bar charts when you want to compare two fields simultaneously (e.g., Issue Type stacked by Status).
  • Lower Activity Stream's Max Issues if the widget is slow — it reads the full history of each issue, which takes longer for large sets.
